Medicare Basics

Part A, hospital insurance, covers services (but not limited to) inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice services and limited home health care.

If you already have Original Medicare (Part A and B), Part D is not automatically included. Therefore, to avoid a penalty, you must get prescription drug coverage. You are able to do this with Original Medicare (Part A and B) by enrolling in a stand-alone Prescription Drug plan. Another way, is to have Medicare Part C and you will automatically have Part D coverage.
